Über Einzelheiten zu dem Spiel hat sich das Entwicklerteam aus Kanada bislang aber sehr erfolgreich ausgeschwiegen. Genau genommen ist sogar eigentlich noch rein gar nichts über die Fortsetzung der Schleich- und Meuchel-Reihe bekannt. Der ehemalige Eidos-Angestellte Ruben Farrus hat nun aber möglicherweise etwas ausgeplaudert, was noch nicht für die Ohren der Öffentlichkeit bestimmt war: Auf Farrus' persönlichen Webseite war nämlich bis vor kurzem zu lesen, dass es sich bei Thief 4 um ein Reboot der Serie handeln würde. Hierbei stellt sich natürlich die Frage, ob Farrus den Begriff Reboot, wie eigentlich üblich in der Branche, im Sinne von Neustart bei Null gemeint hat oder ob er lediglich darauf anspielt, dass es sich bei Thief 4 um die Fortsetzung einer schon totgeglaubten Kultreihe handelt. Wie dem auch sei: Mittlerweile ist der genannte Eintrag wieder von Farrus' Webseite verschwunden, was bedeuten könnte, dass Eidos oder Square Enix gegen den möglichen Geheimnisverrat vorgegangen sind.
