Xbox Series X

Recommended Posts

Sea of Thieves

HiFi Rush

Pentiment

Grounded

It's official: Microsoft is bringing some Xbox-exclusive games to PS5 and Nintendo Switch. It's part of a broader strategy shift inside Microsoft's gaming business to grow games beyond just the company's Xbox consoles.
"We've made the decision that we're going to take four games to the other consoles," reveals Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer on the official Xbox podcast. Bizarrely, Microsoft is refusing to name the four titles, but the company says that two are community-driven games and the other two are smaller titles.
Sources familiar with Microsoft's plans tell me the first two titles will be Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment, followed by Sea of Thieves and Grounded. Spencer claims there hasn't been a change to the company doing Xbox exclusives, yet, at the same time, he also thinks there will be fewer console exclusives across the industry over the next decade.

Weltbewegend sieht tatsächlich anders aus. Wer hätte es gedacht...

Zum Thema neue Hardware (thank GOD!!! Bloss nicht aufhören mit konkurrierender Hardware...)

Fans are also worried about the future of Xbox hardware, and Microsoft is teasing a next-gen console to help reassure them. "There's some exciting stuff coming out in hardware that we're going to share this holiday, and we're also invested in the next-generation road map," says Xbox president Sarah Bond on the Xbox podcast. "What we're really focused on there is delivering the largest technical leap that you will have ever seen in a hardware generation."

Phil Spencer wants Sony and Nintendo games on Xbox, but says he doesn’t expect it

"This is not for me, like, some kind of bartering system," Spencer explained. "We're doing it for the better of Xbox's business."

Despite this, Spencer said he would of course welcome other consoles' games on Xbox, and noted that it would be beneficial for multiplayer games in particular, where building a large online community is important for a game's lifespan.

"I will say, when I look at a game like Helldivers 2 – and it's a great game, kudos to the team shipping on PC and PlayStation – I'm not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox," he said. "If you try to twist yourself to say, like, somehow that benefited somebody somewhere.

Quote

"But I get it. There's a legacy in console gaming that we're going to benefit by shipping games and not putting them on other places. We do the same thing."

I don't know Phil. Who benefits from Starfield and Indiana Jones not being on PS?

Microsoft will have Xbox Showcase in June

https://www.gamingdeputy.com/all-information-from-the-xbox-business-update-summarized/

Last but not least, the Xbox trio had one more thing to announce: things will be traditional again in June a big Xbox showcase where one or two new titles will probably be announced. Included? Perhaps this year's Call of Duty, which is supposed to be released in October.

[TrueAchievements] Microsoft says Xbox players should have confidence in building their DIGITAL libraries in the Xbox ecosystem (RIP Physical)

Quote

Microsoft posted a statement on Xbox Wire, saying "Xbox players should have confidence in building your digital library in the Xbox ecosystem," and that its commitment to game preservation is "unwavering."

Quote

"We will continue to reward that with the most robust, player-friendly experiences, including backwards compatibility, cross-play, cross-save progression, convenient cloud gaming, and more," the statement reads. "Xbox consoles will continue to provide a flagship experience for players; it’s where you get the best value and convenience, it’s where Game Pass provides unprecedented access to an ever-evolving library of games. To be clear: Game Pass will continue to be only available on Xbox platforms."

Da sagen sie es auch so: "To be clear..." ;)

Xbox Unity -> nope

I asked Spencer if Xbox would commit to supporting games on discs. It wasn’t a random query.  Microsoft, like Sony, already offers one variation of its current-gen console that doesn’t have a disc drive and requires games to be downloaded.  But in September Microsoft accidentally leaked a plan for an “all digital,” no disc drive version of its higher-end Xbox Series X console, sparking speculation that it is ready to move on from supporting disc-based games.  Spencer later tweeted that the full sweep of leaked plans, which included that new model, had changed in some unspecified ways.

Spencer wouldn’t talk to me last week about that leaked all-digital Series X, but said Microsoft will “follow what the customers are doing.”

“We are supportive of physical media, but we don't have a need to drive that disproportionate to customer demand,” he told me.

We ship games physically and digitally, and we're really just following what the customers are doing. And I think our job in running Xbox is to deliver on the things that a majority of the customers want. And right now, a majority of our customers are buying games digitally.”

He also hinted at some economic concerns. “Gaming consoles themselves have kind of become the last consumer electronic device that has a drive,” he said. “And this is a real issue, just in terms of the number of manufacturers that are actually building drives and the cost associated with those. And when you think about cogs that we're going to go put in a console—and as you have fewer suppliers and fewer buyers—the cost of the drive does have an impact.

“But I will say our strategy does not hinge on people moving all-digital,” he said. “And getting rid of physical, that's not a strategic thing for us.”

As for the reporting that Microsoft had laid off people on teams involved in making disc versions of games, Spencer said that was more about “alignment of our teams across ZeniMax, Activision and Xbox. So we have teams that are in charge of physical retail, inclusive of selling games in physical outlets. So that's what the team action was. It wasn't about us getting rid of the capability.”

Mark your calendars! The Xbox Games Showcase will be livestreamed on June 9, 2024, starting at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST (additional time zones below).

Like our double-feature last year with Starfield Direct, immediately following the Showcase we’ll be airing a special deep-dive into the next installment of a beloved franchise. We can’t say much, so for now we’ll call it the Xbox Games Showcase followed by [REDACTED] Direct.   This will also be our first Showcase featuring games from our portfolio of studios across Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda and Xbox Game Studios, in addition to titles from our third-party partners.

"We can't say much" hätte spannend werden können, aber....

Klar muss es Call of Duty sein
